Solidworks Research

Eligibility:

The SolidWorks Research licenses offered here are for research. This is the commercial version of the software, but restricted to educational research only. i.e. it can't be used for commercial purposes. These are concurrent licenses, meaning they can be installed on as many computers as needed, but a license server restricts the number of instances running at any given time to the number of copies ordered.

Seattle campus only. Bothell and Tacoma researchers need to contact a VAR, such as Hawk Ridge Systems, and obtain their own licensing.

The software is leased on an annual basis and needs to be renewed each June.

Cost:

$1,000 for Solidworks Standard (new), $500 yearly renewal.

$1,500 for Solidworks Professional (new), $750 yearly renewal.

$2,750 for Solidworks Premium (new), $1000 yearly renewal.

Charged to a UW budget number only.

SolidWorks may be requested from the College of Engineering Software ordering site.

Software Overview:

SolidWorks is a 3D mechanical CAD (computer aided design) program that runs on Microsoft Windows and is being developed by Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp.  SolidWorks is currently used by over 2 million engineers and designers at more than 165,000 companies worldwide.

License Details:

The UW site license is provided by the College of Engineering.  These are concurrent use licenses.  Your computer must be connected to the internet in order to access the College's license server. Licenses renew each June.

Installation Instructions:

All SolidWorks software can be downloaded from the College of Engineering distribution server.

After you lease SolidWorks here, you will be sent a confirmation email with the serial number and host name you need to install and configure SolidWorks to access the College's license server, and checkout a license.

Download the large archive from the Solidworks_for_Research folder.
Unzip the archive
Run setup.exe
Under "Specify the type of Installation:" "Individual (on this computer)" should be selected.
Enter the serial number provided in the confirmation email. click "Install Now"
You should see a pop-up screen asking you to enter the port number and host name of the license server. This information is included in the confirmation email.
click "OK" to run the install

Technical Support:

This software is provided "as is" with no support from College of Engineering staff.
