Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE)

The Office of Inclusive Excellence leads initiatives that help the College of Engineering meet its diversity, equity and inclusion goals through effective planning, collaboration and inclusive engagement.

How we engage with the College

OIE supports people

Students sitting together in a class

We are committed to supporting all members of the College of Engineering community, including students, staff and faculty. Our initiatives, like Summer Bridge and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence, help students find their place at UW. We also support faculty by creating inclusive systems, such as transparent and rubric-based faculty hiring practices.

Training in session

Through workshops, trainings and seminars, we help students, staff and faculty develop the skills needed to create inclusive environments. For example, the Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellowship helps faculty build welcoming classroom spaces for all kinds of students. Our popular Microaggressions Training for staff is now offered to students as well.

Women at a WE Rise event

We want to make inclusion a daily practice, shaping how we learn, collaborate and innovate together. We do this through initiatives like the Professional Mentorship Program, which connects students with ongoing support. We also host events that promote a culture of belonging, like the WE Rise conference and Fail Forward: Building Resilience in STEM.
