Placement Requirements by Major for ENGRUD Students

Engineering Undeclared (ENGRUD) students who were admitted Direct to College use this table to help determine which courses you need to request placement in an engineering major.

Notes:

  • Deadlines for completing placement requirements:
    • First year: July 1
    • Second year: January 15 or July 1
  • In general, you must maintain an average GPA of 2.50 across placement requirements to remain in good academic standing in the CoE and to be able to request placement in a major. Exception: ** BioE requires a 2.5 grade in Chem 162.
  • See Creating Your Educational Plan for courses required by each department for graduation.

Optional sequences

Courses labeled "Take x of n" indicate that you can choose to complete any x courses out of the series of n to meet the requirement for that department. For example:
  • To be placed in the A&A major, students must take either Chem 142 or Phys 123.
  • To be placed in Civil Engineering (CivE), students must take any two courses in the list of four: Chem 142, Chem 152, Phys 122, or Phys 123.

Accelerated/Honors sequences

  • MATH 134, 135, 136 can replace MATH 124, 125, 126 and MATH 307, 308
  • Some departments allow accelerated or honors sequences to satisfy requirements. Run the degree audit (DARS) for a specific department to determine options for sequences.
