Marc Edwards Marc Edwards named one of the world’s most influential people by Time Magazine for uncovering Flint lead poisoning

For Marc Edwards, '88 M.S. CEE, '90 Ph.D. CEE, a fascination with water started at a young age. Growing up on the shores of Lake Erie, he enjoyed fishing and keeping an aquarium. Now a professor at Virginia Tech, Edwards is a nationally recognized expert on water quality. In April 2016, he was named one of the world’s most 100 influential people by Time Magazine for his work to uncover lead poisoning during what is known as the "Flint water crisis." Edwards received the honor together with pediatrician Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, who discovered an alarming number of children with lead poisoning in the Michigan city. Read more »

Mike Francis Mike Francis and Payette Brewing Company: An engineer’s passion for beer

After more than two years at Boeing, enrollment in a master brewer program, an apprenticeship at one of Seattle’s most well-known breweries and a return to his home state of Idaho, Mike Francis, '06 B.S. ISE, established Payette Brewing Company in Boise in 2010. Now one of the Northwest’s up and coming breweries, Payette opened a second production facility in Boise this spring. Read more »

As Chief Technology Officer of Mobvoi, Mike Lei, '06 Ph.D. EE, leads a company focused on intuitive design, infallible functionality and brilliant human-machine interaction. The startup, which is shaking up the tech community, has already received multi-million dollar investments from search giant, Google. Read more »
