Assistant Professor, Materials Science & Engineering

Navid Zobeiry

  • Ph.D. Structural Engineering, University of British Columbia, 2010
  • M.S. Structural Engineering, University of British Columbia, 2005
  • B.S. Civil Engineering, University of Tehran, 2001

Navid Zobeiry was previously a research associate at the University of British Columbia where he led manufacturing and testing for the Composites Research Network, a collaboration of academic and industry partners aimed at improving composite manufacturing and design. He works at the intersection of materials science, data science and manufacturing technologies, with an applied focus on manufacturing of advanced composites.

Throughout his research career, he has collaborated extensively with aerospace and automotive manufacturers and materials suppliers on a wide range of topics including material and process characterization, process simulation and optimization, and manufacturing-induced defects. More recently, his research has been focused on Scientific Machine Learning (SciML) as a mathematical merger between science-based simulation and data-driven modeling. Taking advantage of SciML, he aims to develop the next generation of AI-enhanced manufacturing technologies, leading to the development of self-optimizing and agile factories of the future.
