High Strain Fatigue Properties of Metton
The focus of this project was to obtain better guidance on the high-strain fatigue limits of Metton to support more robust next-generation vocational hood designs. This project developed a strain-controlled flexural fatigue testing capability for Metton specimens cut from parts, including research into suitable bending fatigue methods and the development of a test fixture intended to apply high strain levels in a controlled way. The work aimed to use high-strain bending fatigue data to define Metton design guidelines for low-cycle fatigue conditions below 100,000 cycles to failure. This capability addressed a key limitation in evaluating material performance at elevated strain levels and provided a basis for establishing more reliable strain limits, while recognizing that test variability could be affected by method control and equipment calibration.
