Avik Som joined the UW in August with a joint appointment as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology and Materials Science & Engineering. While completing his dual MD/Ph.D. at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Som cofounded a biomedical incubator Sling Health, as well as a digital health company, CareSignal Health.
Dr. Som’s research interests include cancer therapeutics, tissue engineering, and biomaterials. At the UW, his laboratory applies advances in materials science to generate new therapies in interventional radiology, with a focus on novel cancer therapy and device development. Dr. Som has received research support from the RSNA Foundation and the NIH National Cancer Institute. He clinically practices at the University of Washington with a focus in interventional radiology and oncology.
