First-year engineering experience

As a student admitted through the Direct to College (DTC) pathway, you will start your journey at the UW with a supportive, structured first-year engineering experience before choosing your major.

Through this first-year experience, you will explore the 10 engineering majors offered at the University of Washington. You'll discover the unique opportunities each major provides and learn how these programs can empower you to make a positive impact in the world. By the end of the year, you'll be prepared to request placement into the majors that best align with your interests and goals.

Build community

As an Engineering Undeclared Student (ENGRUD), you can build connections through your Engineering First-year Interest Group (E-FIG) or by joining one of our many student organizations. You might even choose to live in Maple Hall, an engineering-focused Living Learning Community. Whether you’re interested in battling robots or connecting with industry, there’s a group for everyone.
