I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Grossman as Interim Director of the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, effective August 17, 2026.

Dan Grossman
Dan is a highly respected member of the Allen School community whose longstanding contributions to research, education, service, and leadership have helped shape the School’s success. His service to the Allen School and UW includes his current appointment as Vice Director of the Allen School and as Chair of the Senate Committee on Planning and Budgeting. As Interim Director, Dan will provide steady leadership and support the Allen School’s continued excellence in teaching, research, service, and innovation. His appointment will ensure strong leadership and continuity during a period of thoughtful planning for the future, ensuring the Allen School remains well positioned to advance its mission.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Magda Balazinska for her exceptional service and leadership as Director of the Allen School since 2020. Under her leadership, the School strengthened its standing as one of the nation’s leading computing programs while advancing its impact in AI, data science, and emerging areas across research and education. Her service has also extended across the University through her leadership in developing the UW Data Science Minor and as a member of the UW's Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. I am grateful for her vision, dedication, and many contributions.
Please join me in thanking Magda for her outstanding leadership and in congratulating Dan on his appointment. I look forward to working with him in this role and to the Allen School’s continued success in the year ahead.
