If you're interested in becoming an Engineering Support Organization (ESO) or an Engineering Affiliate, review the criteria to determine eligibility.
What does it mean for my Registered Student Organization (RSO) to become an Engineering Student Organization (ESO)?
Only ESOs are eligible to use college space, access to budgets and funding (including CoE Start-Up Grant), participate on the Engineering Student Council, and be more administratively supported by one of our College of Engineering departments.
If you are interested in becoming an Engineering Student Organization, you MUST meet the following criteria to be considered an ESO
- Your club must be an existing UW, Registered Student Organization (RSO)
- Your RSO must relate specifically to the mission of the College of Engineering
- Your RSO must have 50% or more members who are primarily engineering students
- Your RSO must affiliated with an engineering department
- Your RSO must have at least one engineering student serving in a leadership role
- Your RSO must have an engineering faculty/staff member as a club advisor
- Your RSO must have a plan to congregate to meet and operate your club
- Your RSO must have a financial process with a worktag from a CoE department
- Your RSO must have an agreement with a CoE department that will serve as your admin “home”, providing finance and purchasing support, non-departmental affiliated RSOs must have an agreement with CoE for the college to provide admin support.
- Prior to first becoming a new ESO, your team leadership must meet with the College of Engineering’s Associate Dean.
Engineering Affiliates
If your RSO does not satisfy all of the above requirements of becoming an ESO, but is engaged in efforts related to engineering, your RSO could be considered an Engineering Affiliate. Engineering Affiliates will not have all of the benefits of an ESO but will be included on the College of Engineering student communities, clubs & competition teams webpage.
