Emerging Leaders in Engineering (ELE)

Facilitate recruitment and outreach activities

• Lead presentations and activities to teach K-12 audiences about engineering
• Table at college fairs and STEM events
• Participate in panels and info sessions to share about the student experience
• Lead walking tours of engineering buildings on campus for prospective students, families, and other campus guests

Collaborate with College of Engineering staff

• Work closely with the Recruitment & Youth Engagement Program Manager to support outreach activities, build EA community, and resolve any issues
• Volunteer at signature events in the College of Engineering (Engineering Launch, Family Weekend, Engineering Exploration Night, Admitted Student Day, etc.)
• Promote Emerging Leaders in Engineering (ELE) to other students, and support ELE recruitment efforts

Serve as a member of the Engineering Ambassador team

• Participate in at least four EA events each quarter
• Collaborate on projects, meetings, and communications in one of three EA committees
• Engage in event debriefs, committee share-outs, and discussion in weekly EA meetings (Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 PM)

Winter 2026

• Attend the ELE orientation: Wednesday, March 4

Spring 2026 (3-6 hours per week)

• Participate in the ELE retreat on Saturday, April 18
• Attend ENGR 490: Engineering Leadership on Fridays from 3:30 PM to 4:50 PM
  • Registration for the 2 credit course is optional, but your schedule must accommodate the class time to be able to participate in the program

Autumn 2026 - Spring 2027 (2-4 hours per week)

• Attend ELE Pre-Quarter Training on Monday, September 21
• Be present and engaged in weekly EA meetings, every Tuesday 5:30-6:30pm
• Participate in EA committee work (attend regular committee meetings & contribute to committee projects/goals)
• Attend 4 EA events per quarter
• Participate in Admitted Student Day in spring 2027 (date TBD)

ENGR 106 is a CR/NC class that focuses on serving first-year ENGRUD students. It uses a hands-on approach to teach students fundamental skills they will be able to apply in their future as engineers and their lives in general. Designed as a build-your-own-adventure style class, students select workshops they would like to attend from the course schedule. Students are required to attend and complete small assignments for a specific number of workshops in order to receive credit for the class.

Teach and facilitate

• Facilitate workshops each quarter as scheduled by the ENGR 106 TAs. 
• Plan intentional facilitation of a workshop and the deliverable students will submit to demonstrate their learning.
• Identify supplementary materials and resources to share with students to further their learning on the workshop machine.
• Send pre and post communications to workshop registrants.
• Teach students introductory skills to use makerspace machines to be able to create a deliverable.
• Record students’ attendance at workshops.
• Assign deliverables to workshop participants in Canvas after completion of the workshop.
• Share personal experience as an engineering student to support students’ exploration of engineering disciplines and applications.

Collaborate with College of Engineering Staff

• Promote Emerging Leaders in Engineering (ELE) to other students, and support ELE recruitment efforts.
• Communicate with engineering staff about any workshop issues in a timely fashion.
• Engage in EDC Slack regularly.

Serve as a Member of the Engineering Design Coach Team

• Attend one EDC workshop during autumn quarter and provide feedback. 
• Attend a Home Group meeting and a 1:1 meeting with Home Group leader once per quarter.
• Attend bi-quarterly EDC group meetings.
• Attend ENGR 490 in spring quarter and ELE events and trainings throughout the year.
• Build positive, collaborative relationships with fellow EDCs.

Winter 2026 - Summer 2026

• Attend ELE Orientation on Wednesday, March 4.
• Attend ENGR 490 class on Fridays from 3:30 PM to 4:50 PM in spring quarter.
  • Registration for the 2 credit course is optional, but your schedule must accommodate the class time to be able to participate in the program.
• Attend the ELE Retreat on Saturday, April 18.
• Attend one Home Group meeting during spring quarter.
• Refine workshop materials over summer to prepare for instructing in autumn quarter.

Autumn 2026 - Spring 2027

• Attend one Home Group meeting each quarter. 
• Attend one 1:1 meeting with your Home Group leader each quarter.
• Engage in EDC Slack: respond to questions, engage with other EDCs, and share updates.
• Attend ELE Pre-Quarter Training on Monday, September 21.
• Attend bi-quarterly EDC group meetings.
• Facilitate workshops each quarter as scheduled by the ENGR 106 TAs. 
• Participate in at least one ELE recruitment activity (eg: class visits) in January.

Mentor

• Answer new Engineering Undeclared students’ questions about UW and the College of Engineering; support students’ exploration of engineering areas of impact and majors.
• Support new students’ adjustment to UW; help them feel connected to the College of Engineering community.

Teach and facilitate

• Prepare for GEN ST 199 class meetings to lead meaningful discussions and activities.
• Teach new students to utilize academic planning resources such as the engineering major requirement sheets and MyPlan.
• Record students’ completed assignments, course engagement, and grades using Canvas.

Collaborate with College of Engineering Staff

• Meet weekly with the Program Manager, Lead EPEs and fellow EPEs. 
• Communicate frequently with the Lead EPEs and Program Director about any student issues or class concerns.
• Promote Emerging Leaders in Engineering (ELE) to other students, and support ELE recruitment efforts.

Serve as a member of the Engineering Peer Educator team

• Actively engage in all EPE trainings and meetings.
• Build relationships with fellow EPEs.

Winter 2026

• Attend the ELE orientation on Wednesday, March 4
• Meet with EPE Accountabilibuddy

Spring 2026

• Attend ENGR 490: Engineering Leadership on Fridays from 3:30 PM to 4:50 PM

• Participate in virtual engineering new student advising and orientation
• Continue to prepare the GEN ST 199 class materials

Autumn 2026

• Attend ELE Pre-Quarter Training on Monday, September 21
• Attend Husky kick-off: Sunday, September 20
• Teach a section of GEN ST 199
• Attend ENGR 491: Engineering Peer Educator Practicum on Mondays from 3:30-4:20 PM in addition to teaching GEN ST 199

• EPE check-in 2: individual meeting with the Engineering Peer Educator Leadership Team

Winter 2027 - Spring 2027

• Participate in at least one EPE recruitment activity (e.g. class visits) in January
• Make contact (in person, phone/text, or email) with each of your students at least once in winter and spring
