Amirhossein Taghvaei joins the William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics this fall. He was most recently a postdoctoral scholar in mechanical and aerospace engineering at UC Irvine. Taghvaei works in control theory and machine learning with the goal to develop theoretical foundations and efficient algorithms for analysis and control of stochastic systems.

Among his research projects, Taghvaei examined a new branch of data assimilation algorithms based on controlling a system of interacting particles to solve problems in high-dimensional settings, and he designed a computational methodology for optimal mass transport that provides powerful geometrical tools to view and manipulate probability distributions.
