Welcome to the first online issue of Trend, the College of Engineering alumni newsletter. Dean Matthew O'Donnell shares his outlook on the future of engineering in this welcome message.

Engineering Molecules:
Tiny Solutions for Big Problems

Imagine giving doctors the tools to pinpoint the exact location of disease molecules inside your cells and to send safe biologic agents to attack them. Imagine turning the entire outside wall of your home into a solar collector. The power to do so is coming through the work of molecular engineers. They are capitalizing on a decade of advances in nanotechnology to design new molecules and systems of molecules that will provide solutions to many societal challenges.

“We envision UW Engineering, the University, and the Puget Sound region leading molecular engineering,” says Dean Matt O’Donnell. MORE »

Cutting Costs, Not Trees

We're reducing costs by limiting what we print and we're lowering our impact on the environment by using less paper and ink. Trend still contains the same in-depth features and updates on alumni, faculty, and students. Here's how to stay in touch:

Email Please make sure you receive your Trend newsletter by updating your contact information and adding waengr@u.washington.edu to your email list of contacts. As a thank you, 10 respondents will be randomly selected to receive $50 Amazon.com gift certificates and one will be offered the opportunity for a personal meeting with Dean O'Donnell. (We will not share your address outside the UW community.)
