Setting Expectations

Supervisors in the College of Engineering have a responsibility to establish and communicate the performance expectations and standards that will guide an employee's work. Work standards should be clear, reasonable, attainable and equitably applied. Work standards, rules and practices should be reviewed regularly and updated if necessary.

CoE supervisors are expected to partner with the Human Resources team in the College of Engineering Dean's Office. CoE HR is responsible for guiding supervisors through the performance management process, inclusive of potential progressive corrective action. CoE HR requires notification (via email, phone or in person) that you may be engaging in formal counseling, final counseling, and dismissal. Such partnership ensures that each performance issue is addressed accordingly and appropriately. It also allows CoE HR to prepare and plan for potential formal counseling sessions with employees and/or union representatives. Should you require assistance with informal counseling or coaching techniques, contact CoE HR.
