Posting a Co-op Position

There are five steps to hiring a UW Engineering Co-op student:

  1. Post a Co-op position in our on-line recruiting system, Experience™ eRecruiting.
  2. Select resumes from the applicant pool.
  3. Schedule interviews on campus through Ana Wieman.
  4. Extend your offer(s) and hire a UW Engineering student.
  5. Contact the Engineering Co-op Program with the name of the student(s) hired.

To Consider During the Hiring Process

  • Create a position description with details about potential projects, responsibilities and desired skills.
  • Determine the appropriate salary (see Salary Statistics) and consider paying for the student's Co-op credits ($330 for undergraduates, $425 for graduate students).
  • Post your position with the Engineering Co-op Program’s on-line posting system, Experience™ eRecruiting, for marketing to UW engineering students.
  • Communicate with the Engineering Co-op Office about your applicant pool.
  • Schedule on campus interviews working with the Co-op office.

Preparing for Your Co-op Student

  • Identify a supervisor and mentor for the student.
  • Develop a training plan and company orientation.
  • Prepare a work space, technical equipment, and supplies.
  • If relocation is necessary, discuss housing options near the company.
  • Connect them with other Co-op students at the company.

The First Week of the Job

  • Discuss the training plan.
  • Introduce the student to staff members.
  • Spend quality time with your student.
