Posting a Co-op Position
There are five steps to hiring a UW Engineering Co-op student:
- Post a Co-op position in our on-line recruiting system, Experience™ eRecruiting.
- Select resumes from the applicant pool.
- Schedule interviews on campus through Ana Wieman.
- Extend your offer(s) and hire a UW Engineering student.
- Contact the Engineering Co-op Program with the name of the student(s) hired.
To Consider During the Hiring Process
- Create a position description with details about potential projects, responsibilities and desired skills.
- Determine the appropriate salary (see Salary Statistics) and consider paying for the student's Co-op credits ($330 for undergraduates, $425 for graduate students).
- Post your position with the Engineering Co-op Program’s on-line posting system, Experience™ eRecruiting, for marketing to UW engineering students.
- Communicate with the Engineering Co-op Office about your applicant pool.
- Schedule on campus interviews working with the Co-op office.
Preparing for Your Co-op Student
- Identify a supervisor and mentor for the student.
- Develop a training plan and company orientation.
- Prepare a work space, technical equipment, and supplies.
- If relocation is necessary, discuss housing options near the company.
- Connect them with other Co-op students at the company.
The First Week of the Job
- Discuss the training plan.
- Introduce the student to staff members.
- Spend quality time with your student.
