User Eligibility
Employer contact information included in Engineering Co-op & Internship System is intended for the use of current University of Washington, undergraduate engineering students at the UW-Seattle campus. If a co-op (internship) position is obtained using services of the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program by a student, the position must be registered with the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program for Co-op credit. Employer representatives expect that any correspondence (e.g., email messages, telephone inquiries) will only be from engineering applicants who are enrolled at the UW-Seattle campus. Maintain the confidentiality of your password access and use caution and common sense when using the website.
Falsification of Data
Providing inaccurate information in order to meet the eligibility requirements for a specific company requisition is inappropriate. Review your Engineering Co-op & Internship system profile information and resume for accuracy. Conduct your job search with honesty and integrity. Do not lie or stretch the truth on your resume, applications, or during any part of the interview process. If you do not meet the requirements the employer has specified, you may request submittal of your application materials by contacting the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office at engrcoop@uw.edu. Students who falsify information on their application materials in the system will not only be removed from interview schedules, but will be blocked from the system at the discretion of the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office. Any further violation will result in permanent removal from the System.
Interview Cancellation and No-Show
Interviewing on campus is a privilege granted to you by employers who have provided their staff, financial resources, and time to meet you at your convenience. Interview only with employers you're sincerely interested in working for and whose eligibility requirements you meet. "Practice" interviewing is misleading to employers— wasting both their time and money— and prevents sincerely interested candidates from using those interview slots. If you find that you must cancel an interview, then you are required to abide by the following Engineering Co-op & Internship Program policy:
- Cancellation: To cancel an interview, access the Engineering Co-op & Internship System to cancel your interview time slot. If you are unable to cancel your interview via the Engineering Co-op & Internship System, please contact the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office immediately to avoid late cancellation or no-show consequences.
- Late Cancellation: Cancelled appointment two (2) business days or less before interview date. Inability to keep appointment due to an unforeseen occurrence, such as a serious illness or death.
- No-Show: Not showing up or not contacting the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office to cancel the interview is unprofessional and discourteous conduct.
Late Cancellation or No-show - Two (2) Business Days or less Before Interview
Send an apology via email or letter to the recruiter explaining the circumstances that caused you to cancel or miss your interview within three (3) business days and bring in a copy to the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office in 301 Loew Hall or attach it in an email to engrcoop@uw.edu. Failure to send an apology to the recruiter and give a copy to the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office will result in a suspension of your Engineering Co-op & Internship System privileges.
Second Late Cancellation or No-Show
Interview appointments must be kept to maintain integrity and professional conduct. A Late Cancellation or a No-Show for an interview is taken very seriously; therefore, a second violation of this policy within any recruiting season will result in the suspension of your UW Engineering Co-op & Internship Account. You must send an apology to the recruiter within three (3) business days, copy the Engineering Co-op Program at engrcoop@uw.edu and meet with the Engineering Co-op & Internship Adviser and/or Co-op Director.
Note: When a student is blocked from further use of the system, the student is still responsible for attending all previously scheduled interview appointments.
On-campus interviewing is very competitive and highly sought after by all students. It is a privilege and not a right. A wasted interview slot represents a lost opportunity for another student and an enormous loss for the employer. Additionally, it reflects very poorly on the University of Washington, which in turn, reflects poorly on you. Show that you are a person of integrity who keeps commitments.
Offers and Acceptance of Employment
We strongly encourage students to inform the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program of offers and acceptances of employment. When you accept an offer, you should have every intention of honoring that commitment. Accepting an offer only as a precautionary measure is misleading to the employer and may restrict opportunities for others who are genuinely interested in that employer. Once an offer has been accepted, discontinue campus interviews and cancel any remaining interviews in accordance with the cancellation policy stated above. Students should gather information, ask plenty of questions, anticipate other offers, determine your career goals and needs, meet with the Co-op & Internship Program Adviser, and request an extension on the deadline, all in an attempt to make an informed decision regarding an offer of employment and make every effort to avoid reneging a job offer.
Once that commitment is made, reneging on an offer has a very negative impact. It not only tarnishes your reputation but also damages the reputation of University of Washington engineering students. Building a campus presence, identifying suitable candidates and participating in campus recruiting are time-consuming and expensive undertakings for employing organizations. Take seriously your offers and plan to honor your commitments. Because of this, before you retract a committed offer, you should contact the Engineering Co-op & Internship Office and set up an appointment with an Engineering Co-op & Internship representative. In this meeting, you will consider your options and also outline an apology letter to any affected employers. This letter will be forwarded on to the employer(s) with the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program's notification.
Not contacting the Engineering Co-op & Internship Program with a retracted agreement risks your Engineering Co-op & Internship Account being revoked for a temporary amount of time, or possibly indefinitely.
