SWAG

When presenting to audiences of girls grades 6-12, it's fun to have some "giveaways" to reward their participation. Instead of using candy, we use SWAG--the little freebies that companies give out with their logo. These are usually water bottles, key chains, puzzles, highlighters, pens, LEDs, stress balls, and many other goodies. We get swag from companies that hire engineers like Microsoft, Chevron, and Boeing. It gives the girls something tangible to take home from the presentation as well as makes them aware of companies they might work for one day.

UWWI suggests

HOW TO SCORE SOME SWAG:

  • Call the HR department of the company and ask for some
  • Your school of engineering may have someone that is a representative to industry who could help you
  • Companies that visit for engineering "career fairs" on campus usually bring SWAG and will happily leave it with you if you ask!

We always have more than enough SWAG around--the companies are happy to supply it!
