[em]Washington Engineer[/em] Special Edition - February 2013

Dear Friends of Engineering,

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael B. Bragg as the Frank & Julie Jungers Dean of the College of Engineering, effective July 15, 2013.

An aeronautical engineer by training, Bragg joins us from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he has served as interim dean of engineering for the last six months and in college leadership positions for over ten years. A skilled administrator, Bragg has grown educational programs and championed diversity. He has been instrumental in curriculum innovation, including supervision of the Technology Entrepreneurial Center and is a co-founder of two faculty startup companies.

An internationally renowned expert on ice accretion on aircraft and its effect on flight safety, Bragg's research and teaching is focused on aerodynamics and flight mechanics. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and has received national awards for his work.

The College is poised to advance key initiatives focused on the student experience, faculty development, educational outreach, and research and commercialization and we are confident that with Dr. Bragg's depth of experience and under his leadership the College of Engineering will flourish.
