As a Ph.D. student at UC Berkeley, Ting Cao focused on the optical properties of quasi two-dimensional materials and excited-state physics. He completed his postdoctoral research at Stanford University where he worked on two-dimensional semiconductors for electronic and photonic applications, energy harvesting, and light-matter interactions.
His research employs quantum physics, advanced materials modelling techniques and high-performance computing to study topics in condensed matter physics and materials science, with special focus on the electronic structures of materials, excited-state phenomena and light-matter interactions.
He plans to continue exploring the distinct physical properties of one- and two-dimensional material systems and materials physics and related applications absent in conventional bulk materials. Ting’s work on atomically thin materials and graphene nano-systems has been published in Nature.
