Matthew Yankowitz was recently a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University, where he helped develop a technique to manipulate the electrical properties of graphene and other van der Waals materials and heterostructures using pressure. At the UW, he seeks to uncover and control exotic electronic states of matter which emerge at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields. His work will explore topology, correlations and symmetry in two-dimensional quantum materials, and could help to develop new electronic devices with wide-ranging potential applications in computing, sensing and energy storage.
Matthew has been published in Nature and Science for his work investigating van der Waals materials.
