Jessica Ray will join CEE in the winter as an assistant professor. She comes to the UW from the University of California, Berkeley where she was a Miller Institute Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her research addresses water security challenges and offers circular wastewater practices as a solution. She is focused on shifting the current linear consumption of water to a circular approach of waste water reuse and regeneration. She examines surface chemistry of composite materials using advanced analytic tools in order to remove toxic contaminants and separate useful recyclable materials to improve water quality and recover valuable resources from wastes.
At the UW, she plans to continue work at the intersection of materials science and water chemistry to remove contaminants in urban stormwater for low-impact water conservation efforts. She received a fellowship from the National Science Foundation to design a water remediation and environmental engineering curriculum for K-12 students.
