BMP Field Training for Construction Inspectors

Course Faculty: Michael Hrachovec and Carl Menconi

This one-day field course is for inspectors and supervisors responsible for performance review of erosion control BMPs.  It is conducted at field sites around Washington State.  The participants will install and test a range of the most common BMPs.  Lecture, demonstrations and interactive exercises will further explore the following topics:

Specifications, installation and function of typical erosion and sediment control BMPs for roadway projects
Comparative analysis of different BMPs based on performance, limitations and cost
Troubleshooting installed BMPs - Key inspection points, BMP use in relation to site conditions
Contractor communications - how to discuss BMP modifications with the Contractor based on BMP functional limitations, proper installation and project risk including site conditions, hydraulics and potential off-site impacts
This course is conducted outdoors and participants will be installing BMPs. Please dress appropriately for these activities and come prepared for rain or extremes of temperature.

Course participants will earn .6 CEUs/7 PDHs upon successful completion of this course. The CEU is a nationally recognized measure of participation in a noncredit continuing education program that meets established criteria for increasing knowledge and competency.
