Advanced Highway Capacity Analysis for Engineers and Planners

Two-course Series

This is the second of two courses in the TRANSPEED highway capacity series that combine to provide comprehensive insights into all aspects of capacity and level-of-service analyses for highway, transit, pedestrian, and bicycle facilities.

The first course in this series is Basic Highway Capacity Analysis for Engineers and Planners.

Course Faculty:Wayne Kittleson and Robert Layton

This three-day course is based upon the Revised 2000 Highway Capacity Manual and covers advanced applications of traffic flow and capacity analysis, including discussion and applications of delay, queuing and shock wave analysis. You will use Highway capacity analysis software (HCS) to solve workshop problems. You will also discuss applications that cover freeways, arterials, roads and intersections and unsignalized intersections. Construction/maintenance work zone capacity is covered, a critical safety design consideration in handling traffic through work zones.

Course Topics

Delay, queuing and shock wave analysis
Introduction to computer applications
Freeway climbing lanes
Passing lanes on two-lane two-way highways
Operational method for signalized intersections
Four-way stopped controlled intersections
Weaving sections analysis
Construction/maintenance work zone capacity, queuing and delays
We will come to you!
