Application Procedures

Valle Scholarships are limited to graduate students enrolled in programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering or Architecture and Urban Planning. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, or of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, or Sweden. Note that the deadline to apply is *January 15 for Architecture and Urban Planning students and February 1 for Civil and Environmental Engineering students..

Note: Due to the time required for processing applications, international applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to the UW Graduate School by November 1. Applications received after this date will be processed as soon as possible but significant delays may result.

1. Complete Application Form:

2. Submit GRE and/or TOEFL scores
Applicants to the Graduate School at the University of Washington must take the GRE examination. Students from the Nordic countries must also take the TOEFL test.

Note: Test center locations and dates are limited, so you are encouraged to register for the GRE and TOEFL tests as soon as possible. Please indicate when you plan to take the tests on your application.

3. Submit a proposed plan of study and research
Applicants for the exchange program must submit a proposed plan of study and research. You should describe your research and study plans for the exchange, note how this stay will affect your career and other anticipated study and experience which could follow your exchange work. Please discuss arrangements you and your advisor have made with a faculty member who has agreed to supervise your work while at the exchange institution.

4. Apply to UW Graduate School (unless you are a current UW graduate student)

Valle applications must be received by January 15 (CAUP) or February 1 (CEE) to be considered for the following academic year. Awards include a monthly stipend (approximately $500 per month more than a regular graduate assistantship) plus tuition.
