Monique Crewes

Lieutenant Monique Crewes works in the cyber warfare development department at SPAWAR as a lead software engineer and program manager.

Her first Commissioned Officer tour was on board the USS Winston S Churchill DDG 81 serving as the Electrical Officer. As an additional duty she was the Visit Board Search and Seizure officer working with anti-terrorist/force protection systems and capabilities. Her follow-on tours include the Naval Experimental Dive Unit (NEDU) and the Naval Postgraduate School. At NEDU she revised and wrote the commands Information Assurance policies and further helped maintain and manage the network infrastructure while participating in various studies in Navy safety programs. In 2007, she was commissioned through the United States Naval Academy as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO). In 2010, she was re-designated as an Engineering Duty Officer (EDO).

Crewes completed her her MS in Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School in 2012 while also attaining a certificate in Secure Communications. She earned her BS in Computer Science from the United States Naval Academy in May 2007. Crewes hails from Montclair, New Jersey.

Stacey McDaniel

Stacey is the Refinery Manager of the BP Cherry Point Refinery in Blaine, WA. She is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of a 235,000 barrel/day refinery, the largest in Washington State. She leads a permanent staff of 800 BP employees and between 600-3500 contractors at any given time.

Prior to her current role, Stacey was the Head of Technology Development for BP's Global Refining business. She had accountability for the development and deployment of innovative refining solutions, ranging from improved process technologies to real-time monitoring devices and predictive models.

Stacey has 20 years of industry experience, and has held leadership roles in Operations, Supply and Technology. She spent time in London at BP's corporate headquarters developing Technology strategy for the BP Group and Business plans and strategy for the Global Refining business.

Stacey holds a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and attended the University of Chicago for MBA coursework. She is married to Phil and they have one daughter, Juliet Joy (JJ), who at 17 months old keeps her parents very, very busy.

Kate Starbird

Kate Starbird is an assistant professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington. Dr. Starbird's research, which is situated within the fields of HCI and CSCW, examines the use of social media during natural disasters and other crisis events. She investigates both large-scale and small group online interaction within this context, studying how digital volunteers and other members of the connected crowd work to filter and shape the information space. As part of this research, she co-created and developed the infrastructure to support the "Tweak the Tweet" project, an innovation for using Twitter more effectively as a channel for reporting actionable information during crisis. Her current research includes an effort to design software tools to help emergency responders and digital volunteers make sense of the massive amounts of social media data available in the wake of disaster events.

Dr. Starbird received her PhD in Technology, Media and Society from the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado in 2012. She received an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for her PhD work.

Kate earned her BS in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1997. At Stanford, she competed for the highly ranked women's basketball team, helping to guide them to three Final Four appearances. Kate earned All-America honors for two seasons, and won the Naismith Trophy for the Collegiate Player of the Year in 1997. She also won Co-SIDA Academic All-America honors. After graduating, she played 10 years of professional basketball, in the WNBA and abroad, before returning to academia.

Valencia Faye Wilson Tate

Valencia Faye Wilson Tate is the Vice President and Director for Global Diversity and Inclusion at CH2M Hill. Her responsibilities include employee and supplier diversity, policy and business development, training, public relations and community affairs.

Faye has received many honors for her work, including: The Martin Luther King, Jr. Business and Social Responsibility Award, "Woman of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts of America (Colorado), Leadership Denver and Distinguished Community Leader and Trailblazer from The National Council of Negro Women, Chi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, The Colorado Association of Black Journalists and The Huntington's Disease Association of Colorado. She received the Outstanding Woman in Business Award from the Colorado Black Women for Political Action and the Equality in Business Award from the Colorado Human Rights Campaign. In addition, Faye received the "High Heels" recognition associated with the Trumpet Awards in January 2010. In 2011, Faye received the "Champion of Change" recognition from Escuela Tlatelolco.

Faye earned a Juris Doctor Degree from The Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Faye is the mother of one amazing daughter, Elleana.
