UW engineers among recipients of new Life Sciences Discovery Fund grants

Washington State's Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF) has announced $3.7 million in new research and development grants. Two of the recipients are University of Washington engineers.
- David Baker, a UW professor of biochemistry with adjunct appointments in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science & Engineering, was awarded $1,400,000 to create an institute that will translate protein design discoveries and projects into commercial products.
- Deok-Ho Kim, a UW assistant professor of bioengineering, was awarded $250,000 to create an assay for drug developers to use to identify therapies that are potentially harmful to the heart, before those therapies are used in humans.
