Emergency Preparedness for Instructors and Teaching Assistants

In the event of an earthquake, fire, or other emergency occurring during class time, the Instructor and/or Teaching Assistant are responsible for the safety of their students, and for the evacuation of the building.

We have gathered together several resource and training materials that are designed to prepare you for an emergency and have included them on this page. Please read and become familiar with the procedures and information. Share this information with your students at the beginning of the quarter, and go over the building's evacuation procedures. Many of the resource documents can be printed and inserted into your class folders or notebooks, so that you will have the information with you should you be caught in an emergency situation.

Locate and read the multi-colored Emergency Procedures poster* that is posted in all classrooms. A copy of the document may also be found here.

Locate the Emergency Evacuation poster* that is also posted in all classrooms. Read the information about evacuation procedures the location of your "Evacuation Assembly Point" for your classroom. Share this information with your students.

Read the Classroom Emergency Procedures documents prepared by the UW Environmental Health and Safety Department. A PDF version of this document is available here.

Read the document Emergency Evacuation for Persons with Disabilities. This document can be found on the UW Environmental Health & Safety Web site.
