Preparing students for a world of opportunity
In a global economy, where international borders become increasingly blurred, engineers compete for jobs and projects all around the world. Add the growing realization that environmental issues are cause for universal concern and it becomes clear that engineering is an international occupation. For students, gaining the ability to work with and within groups from different countries and cultures is a crucial aspect of their engineering education.
The College of Engineering offers a host of programs to both bring foreign students to the COE, as well as to give our students ample opportunity to study and work in other countries. From Africa to Asia, our students are working to provide communities clean drinking water, building waste treatment plants and improving the transportation of needed food and supplies in times of crisis. Through the innovative UW WorldWide program, housed in the College of Engineering and funded by the National Science Foundation, students live and work side-by-side with their hosts, learning language and culture outside the classroom, gaining an invaluable window to the world.
