Agreement for Cultural, Educational and Scientific Cooperation between The University of Washington College of Engineering, Seattle, Washington, USA, and [foreign institution]
__________________________________________________________________________________________________ In accordance with a mutual desire to promote international cooperation in science and engineering education, the University of Washington College of Engineering, and the [foreign institution] join in the following Agreement on cultural, educational and scientific cooperation. Both institutions will encourage direct contact and cooperation between faculty members, programs, departments, institutes and other research centers subject to the provisions of this Agreement. The University of Washington College of Engineering and the [foreign institution] shall cooperate in fields of teaching and research to be agreed upon. Cooperation in other areas may be arranged by mutual agreement. Within the fields of study to be mutually designated, both institutions agree to the following general forms of cooperation: 1. Joint research activities. 2. Exchange of invitations to scholars for lectures and talks; and participation in conferences, colloquia and symposia. 3. Exchange of information in fields of interest to both institutions. 4. Exchange of faculty and students for study and research. Themes of joint activities and the conditions for utilizing the results achieved and arrangements for specific visits, sabbatical leaves, exchanges, and other forms of cooperation will be negotiated for each specific case. Both institutions understand that all financial arrangements will have to be negotiated for each specific case and will depend on the availability of funds and/or tuition waivers. The UW Home Tuition Program is available when the numbers of outbound and inbound students or scholars is balanced. The UW Home Tuition Program requires a strict one-for-one reciprocity where students will pay tuition to their home institution and not pay tuition at the host institution. Imbalances in any given year will be redressed the following year. Certain unavoidable fees at the host institution, such as application and orientation, will be borne by the student participant. Both Universities subscribe to the policy of equal opportunity and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation. The University of Washington College of Engineering and the [foreign institution] shall abide by these principles in the administration of this Agreement. This Agreement will become effective upon the date of signature by the representatives of the Universities. It shall be subject to review in five years and shall be extended after mutual agreement.
