The 2007 Georgia Basin Puget Sound (GBPS) Research Conference is the premier science gathering focused on the Georgia Basin Puget Sound region, and will provide a venue for scientists and decision makers from a wide range of disciplines to share findings and perspectives. The conference is also a forum for policy-makers, educators, and citizen groups to share successes and collaborate on challenges facing the GBPS region.

This 8th biannual Conference – focusing on transboundary ecosystem issues and the integrating of science and decision-making – builds upon the successes of previous Puget Sound and GBPS research conferences, and supports significant transboundary work underway in the GBPS ecosystem. The 2007 Conference theme is:

Science, knowledge and action in support of a sustainable transboundary region

Previous conferences in both Vancouver (2003) and Seattle (2005) were attended by over 850 scientists, First Nations and Tribal government representatives, resource managers, community leaders, policy makers, educators and students. The Conference provides a venue for reporting on agency priorities, key transboundary initiatives and to share science and information about the condition and management of the Georgia Basin Puget Sound region.

The 2007 GBPS Research Conference will be made possible by the generous support of co-sponsors and the registration fees paid by attendees. Funding from co-sponsors is essential to ensure a high-quality event in support of our individual and collective efforts in the shared Georgia Basin Puget Sound ecosystem.

Attendees at the bi-annual GBPS Research Conference usually include: scientists from government agencies, universities, Tribes, First Nations, and the private sector; environment and natural resource managers; policy-advisors and decision-makers; educators and students; and concerned citizens. Sponsoring organizations will also be recognized in the web-based Proceedings, which are referred to by interested researchers and policy-makers after the Conference.
