2007 Georgia Basin Puget Sound Research Conference

On-Line Proceedings

Download 2007 Proceedings Preparation Guidelines

The organizers of the 2007 Georgia Basin Puget Sound Research Conference will document and disseminate the information presented at the conference by publishing conference proceedings. The proceedings of the 2007 conference will be published on-line and will be available in the summer of 2007.

All authors who present posters or talks at the 2007 Research Conference are encouraged to prepare a manuscript for the proceedings. Authors who do not wish to submit a manuscript, are requested to provide an “extended abstract” (abbreviated manuscript) that includes citations and accompanying references to other publications where information is presented more completely. Presentation decks (e.g., PowerPoint) will also be accepted in place of a manuscript or extended abstract. If no manuscript, extended abstract or presentation deck is submitted, we will use the short abstracts originally submitted.

If you wish to make a submission to the proceedings, please prepare one of the following formats for the on-line proceedings:

  • Manuscripts (up to 8 pages)
  • Extended abstracts (1 to 2 pages)
  • Presentation deck (5mb maximum file size)

Submission deadline: April 30, 2007

Please read and follow the Guidelines on the following pages to prepare and submit your manuscript or extended abstract.

Preferred Formats:

Please send both the PDF and the original file version of your manuscript or extended abstract.

      • PDF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File)
        and
      • Microsoft Word - any recent version (.doc)
        or
        Rich Text Format (.rtf)
If you wish to include the PowerPoint presentation, you may send just the .ppt file (5mb max file size).

Please do not send both a manuscript and a PowerPoint presentation. We will only publish one or the other.

  • Bold title, headings and subheadings.
  • Italicize Latin/scientific names (Genus species) and terms, e.g.: Oncorhynchus kisutch or in situ
  • Do not indent text. All text, headings and subheadings are flush left.

Table/Figures/Photographs

Please embed all photographs, equations and graphics in your document.

Permissions: Be sure that you have permission to use ALL graphics in your manuscript if someone other than you or a co-author created the work.

Color

The Proceedings will be published on the web. Color graphics and photographs are acceptable. Aim for high-contrast graphics, especially with data that is displayed in chart form. Often readers will prefer to read a printed version and many don’t have access to color printers.

References and Citations

Include bibliographic references at the end of the text — using the name and year system — in alphabetical order by the first author’s last name. When two or more works by the same author are included, list the earliest publication first. For more details about how to prepare references, see How To Write and Publish a Scientific Paper by Robert A. Day (3rd Edition, 1988, Oryx Press).

Examples of citations:

Chapter from a book:

Giammona, C.P, 1988, Sea surveys, In: Finkl, C.W, Jnr. (ed.), The Encyclopedia of Field and General Geology, Van Nostrand Reinhold, New York, pp.747-764.

Journal article:

Green, D. H., and M. E. Wallace, 1998, Mantle metasomatism by ephemeral carbonatite melts, Nature, 336:459-462.

Book:

Kundu, PK, 1990, Fluid Dynamics, Academic, New York, 638pp.

Citation within the main text should include the author’s last name and year of publication, with multiple citations separated by a semi-colon, in parentheses, as in this example: (Baker 1988) or (Baker 1988; Ransom 1992). For two authors, list both names in the citation (Baker and Ransom 1992); for more than two authors, list the primary author only (Ransom et al 1993).
