This conference provides a focused gathering of the best design and manufacturing research. Over 400 posters will be presented by leading researchers from across North America. Grantees from NSF, CONACyT, NRC, and NSERC will be represented. Participants are afforded a truly unique opportunity to discuss leading edge research one-on-one.
Grantees will present posters (one poster per award) which will be displayed for the entire conference. Poster boards will be oriented horizontally and measure 1 meter (39") high by 2 meters (78") wide. For each paper, grantees are assigned a specific day to be present at the poster for interaction. Presenters may set up their posters any time after 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4. Posters may remain in place throughout all three poster sessions. The poster session schedule is as follows:
Poster Session A: Tuesday, January 4, 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Poster Session B: Wednesday, January 5, 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Poster Session C: Thursday, January 6, 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Poster sessions allow authors to present papers and meet with interested attendees for in-depth technical discussions. It is important that you display your message clearly and strikingly so as to attract people who might have an interest in your paper.
Poster Preparation Suggestions
- For your poster, a board will be provided which measures 2 meters wide (78") by 1 meter tall (39"). The board is elevated on a stand so that the bottom of the board is approximately 2 feet off the ground. Pins and velcro will be available to attach your poster to the board. This poster board size will accomodate approximately 30 standard 8 1/2" x 11" sheets of paper.
- The title of your poster should appear at the top in large letters. Poster titles using a font size of 60 point will stand out and be easy to read. The minimum font size for poster titles should be 36 point. Below the title put the author(s)' name(s) and affiliation(s).
- Carefully and completely prepare your poster in advance of the conference. Try tacking up the poster before you leave for the meeting to see what it will look like and to make sure that you have all of the necessary pieces.
- Your poster should cover the key points of your work. It need not attempt to include all the details; you can describe them to people who are interested. The ideal poster is designed to attract attention, provide a brief overview of your work, and initiate discussion.
- The flow of your poster should be from the top left to the bottom right.
- You may wish to use color for highlighting and to make your poster more attractive.
- Use pictures, diagrams, cartoons, figures, etc., rather than text wherever possible.
- Try to state your main result in large lettering. This way people can read the poster from a distance.
- People will not read a lot of text, and certainly won't read typewriter-sized text. The smallest text on your poster should be at least 18 point, and the important points should be in a larger size.
- Make your poster as self-explanatory as possible. This will save your efforts for technical discussions.
Poster Presentations
- You may wish to prepare a short presentation of about 5 or 10 minutes that you can periodically give to those assembled around your poster. You may give this talk several times during your poster session.
- When possible, it is helpful to have more than one author at your poster to aid in presentations and discussions, and to provide the presenters with the chance to rest, break for lunch or briefly view other posters.
