COLLOQUIUM FORMAT
This meeting is the latest in the series of International Colloquia on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems, first held in Brussels in 1967 and held every two years since then. The 18th ICDERS technical program will include over 220 contributed papers organized into technical sessions including poster and podium sessions.

PLENARY LECTURES
Invited speakers will be featured in morning plenary sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Plenary lectures are :

D. Bradley, "Problems of Predicting Turbulent Burning Rates"
R. K. Hanson, "Advanced Laser Diagnostics for Reactive Flows"
P. Roth, "Formation of Nanoparticles in Gaseous Reactive Systems"

PODIUM SESSIONS
Concurrent technical sessions are scheduled each day, Monday through Friday in Kane Hall. Over 180 papers will be presented in fifty-seven podium sessions.

POSTER SESSIONS
The 18th ICDERS will feature two poster sessions where 40 posters will be presented. Poster sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 2:50 p.m. in the Walker Ames Room, Kane Hall.

COLLOQUIUM VENUE
The conference will be held on the University of Washington campus in Seattle. Seattle is known for its scenic beauty, temperate climate, and abundant cultural and recreational opportunities. The Puget Sound region offers many opportunities for recreation and sightseeing. The Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascade Mountains to the east provide a spectacular setting for the city. Just north of downtown Seattle, the University of Washington campus occupies 684 acres bordering Lake Washington. The on campus conference headquarters, nearby restaurants, shops, and services are all within comfortable walking distance.

SCOPE AND TOPICS
The subject matter of DYNAMICS OF EXPLOSIONS is concerned principally with the interrelationship between rate processes of energy deposition in compressible media and their flow fields, as it occurs typically in detonations. DYNAMICS OF REACTIVE SYSTEMS deals with non-steady coupling between the flow system and exothermic chemical reactions, such as they occur typically in the course of combustion. In addition, workshops/minicolloquia will be organized for a number of topics such as pulsed detonation engines, RAMAC, linking turbulent mixing with exothermic reaction, and mathematical modeling. Suggestions of other topics are welcome.

MEETING
After the Colloquia in Brussels (1967), Novosibirsk (1969), Marseilles (1971), San Diego (1973), Bourges (1975), Stockholm (1977), Göttingen (19791, Minsk (1981), Poitiers (1983), Berkeley (1985), Warsaw (1987), Ann Arbor (1989), Nagoya (1991), Coimbra (1993), Boulder (1995), Cracow (1997), and Heidelberg (1999); the 18th Colloquium will held at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2001.

PUBLICATION
The extended abstracts of papers and posters presented at the colloquium will be published on the web, and in CD format, as the Proceedings of the 18th ICDERS. Authors of papers presented at this meeting are encouraged to submit full-length versions to one of three journals, "Shock Waves", "Combustion Science and Technology", or "Combustion Theory and Modeling". The journals will conduct independent reviews and make decisions about publications according to normal journal standards. E. S. Oran will serve as special editor for Shock Waves; W. A. Sirignano and F. A. Williams, Combustion Science and Technology; and Gaetano Continillo, Combustion Theory and Modeling.
