Streaming Video Information
The University of Washington EDGE program utilizes "streaming" technology to stream video and audio to the web. All EDGE courses are available via streaming media.
The Active On-Demand Content videos are streamed at 384Kbps for DSL, Cable Modem or faster LAN connections.
An archived version of each 384Kbps stream is available as a downloadable FTP file. These files may be downloaded to your local machine and then played back in the Microsoft Windows Media Player. Please be aware that the content files ARE LARGE (around 100MB/per hour of video). The FTP files using the "Zip" compression format. The entire file must be downloaded and uncompressed before your are able to playback the video. The Zip format provides a modest decrease in download time, but more importantly, the ".zip" filename extension prevents the Media Player installed on your computer from attempting to play the incoming file as it is being downloaded.
