About CWD

The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at the University of Washington focuses on diversity through research, evaluation, and programmatic initiatives in higher education and the workforce. CWD concentrates on the science & engineering emerging workforce, promoting recruitment, retention, and advancement of women and underrepresented minorities.

CWD designs research projects and implements strategies to promote underrepresented workers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). CWD conducts research on the STEM workforce, assesses educational climates, and evaluates programs designed to increase the representation of diverse groups in STEM fields. CWD offers graduate student mentoring programs, professional seminars, and ethics training in science and engineering.

CWD receives research and evaluation grants from both federal agencies and private foundations. In addition, CWD has numerous sub-grants at the University of Washington and other institutions in science and engineering departments to evaluate and manage select elements of National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Education, and private foundation grants.
