Resources for UW Graduate Students

Bioscience Careers

Bioscience Careers is a student-organized program featuring monthly seminars by guest speakers who talk about career alternatives for PhD students in the biological sciences.

Center for Career Services

CCS provides career services to students at the University of Washington. In addition to offering individual appointments to all students, they offer many events tailored to meet the needs of graduate students.

Center for Innovation & Research on Graduate Education

CIRGE provides information to assist students in crossing traditional boundaries between countries and employment sectors. The Center conducts research studies and issues reports on innovations in graduate education at the local, national, and international levels.

Center for Instructional Development & Research

CIDR offers training for UW Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants, course development assistance, and workshops on a variety of topics including classroom management and using technology in the classroom.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center can help students with many issues ranging from career decisions to depression and anxiety. They also run a PhD support group for doctoral students.

Engineering Teaching Portfolio Program

The Engineering Teaching Portfolio Program helps graduate students develop a teaching portfolio that can be used during a faculty job search.

Graduate and Professional Student Senate

GPSS is the UW student government organization for graduate and professional students. It includes two senators from each academic department (get to know yours), and serves as advocates for students on campus and in the legislature. Each year, they publish the GPSS Guide to Life which includes many helpful hints and resources for graduate students.

The Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program

GO-MAP, a division of The Graduate School, serves the needs of students of color and those from other underrepresented groups, and providing opportunities for all students that are rich in cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity. GO-MAP offers programs, events, activities, and opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community.

The Graduate School

The Graduate School website offers a wealth of information for graduate students about policies and procedures, funding, fellowships, career development and student life. A number of programs specifically for graduate students are also offered, including Preparing Future Faculty, Reinvisioning the PhD and the Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP).

Grants and Funding Information Service

GFIS helps UW graduate students identify external sources of funding. Through workshops and individual consultations, they help graduate students learn to search for potential sources of funding.

Leadership Institute for Tomorrow

LIFT UW LIFT UW is a student organization that provides workshops and leadership training for graduate students and postdocs at the University of Washington.
