GRADUATE STUDENT MENTORING

CWD is committed to creating a supportive academic and social climate for students in science and engineering. To facilitate and ensure their success, CWD coordinates mentoring programs to introduce graduate students to experienced individuals, who act as advisors and role models, in their respective fields of interest.

CWD offers two mentoring programs. The Faculty and Graduate Mentoring Program aims to increase the recruitment and retention of graduate students from underrepresented groups, including women and individuals of color. Meanwhile, the Nanotechnology Mentoring Program pairs students affiliated with the Center for Nanotechnology with mentors in industry or faculty positions to learn about practical applications of nanotechnology.

Each program uses the Curriculum for Training Mentors and Mentees in Science and Engineering, developed by CWD, to help mentors and mentees establish a positive and successful relationship.

For details about the mentoring programs, visit The Programs.

In addition to the mentoring programs, CWD also offers professional development seminars addressing issues of concern to graduate students. Click on Seminars to find out more. Also be sure to visit Graduate Student Resources to find links to UW and other websites and programs that are aimed at helping graduate students succeed.

The graduate student programs are run by Brianna Blaser and Kelsey March. For more information on either program please call 206-543-4810 or email cwdgrad@u.washington.edu.
