Emerging Leaders in Engineering Scholarships are awarded to students who are selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders in Engineering Program. The program is designed to help undergraduate engineering students develop their leadership abilities through practical experience and personal reflection.
Emerging Leaders in Engineering scholars gather weekly (Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.) to discuss how leadership topics apply to their UW education and post-graduate endeavors. Interactive activities are centered around broad leadership skills with additional assignments completed outside of class. Students network with other engineering students and learn about leadership from leaders in industry and academia.
The Emerging Leaders in Engineering application is open to current and newly admitted UW undergraduate students who expect to be registered full time (at least 12 credits) during the award period and pursuing a bachelor's degree in the College of Engineering at the UW (Seattle campus).
All complete and eligible applications are reviewed by a scholarship selection committee and candidates are evaluated based, in part, on their demonstrated leadership potential. Current UW students who have meaningfully participated in a College of Engineering student society, club, organization, Co-Op or research lab as well as Direct Freshman Admits are also encouraged to apply.
Expectations of ELE Participants
Award recipients must continue to be actively engaged in the Emerging Leaders in Engineering Program and remain full-time undergraduate students in the College of Engineering at UW during their award period. Award recipients must maintain a 3.00 GPA during their award period. Students will also be required to register for the associated 1-credit Leadership class series during Fall, Winter and Spring quarters. Students unable to meet these requirements may forfeit their place in the program and the accompanying scholarship.
The application opens each year from April 1 to May 1 at 5 p.m. Note:
- Submit all materials by the deadline. You will not be considered if materials required by the application are late.
- The application includes a recommendation; applicants are responsible for having their recommender submit the recommendation before the application deadline.
Applicants please fill out the application and find the link to the recommendation here: ELE Application.
