Matlab can be downloaded from the web server http://www.engr.washington.edu/computing/software/dist/matlab/
The site requires you to enter your UWnetid and password.
Unix and Mac users need to download a tarred archive. Windows users will download a zip archive.
Specific system requirements for the different releases of Matlab can be viewed on the Mathworks web site at: http://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab/requirements.html
If you have ordered your Matlab license, your MATLAB product license passcodes should have been delivered to you via email. If not, please see http://support.engr.washington.edu/matlab/math_purchase_start.htm to place your order. The email message includes an attached license.dat file with the passcodes for use with Unix/Mac installs, and a PLP for Windows installs.
Install this software into a new folder. Do not install this release over a previous installation of Matlab.
These instructions are for R2007b. The downloaded Matlab archive contains a install_guide.pdf file for installing this release.
Installing and activating the latest release R2008a is completely different and not covered here. While Mathworks provides instructions on-line here, the initial setup of your license is handled manually by the UW math software administrator. Please email mathadm@engr.washington.edu for help with this process.
Instructions for the previous version R2006b are here:
Documentation will be installed along with the licensed products.
Updates to Matlab software that came out after the on-line CDs can be downloaded from the Mathworks web server: http://www.mathworks.com/downloads/web_downloads/
The site requires you to login with a id and password.
If you don't already have a logon, you can request one by sending email to: mathadm@engr.washington.edu.
To view the pricing for new purchases and renewals of all MATLAB products please refer to the following online document: http://support.engr.washington.edu/matlab/matlab_prices.asp
The license.dat file requires a specific format for the passcodes and
information specific to the system MATLAB is used on. Each line in the license.dat
file must begin with INCREMENT or # and the file distributed through the UW
license program is formatted this way.
-------------------------------
OSX, Linux, or Unix users must change the SERVER line after running the installation.
The Matlab/FlexLM installation adds the following line to the license.dat file.
SERVER hostname hostid 27000
But under our UW site license #164896, the hostid must be replaced using ID
= license_number.
The Server line should then look like:
SERVER hostname ID=164896 27000
(This does not apply if you've been issued a multi-user concurrent license)
Please forward any questions regarding MATLAB product installation and licensing to mathadmin@engr.washington.edu.
To receive technical support for Matlab, contact support@mathworks.com and provide them our license number 164896 or your concurrent license number if you have one.
