CAEE RESEARCH BRIEFS

CAEE Research Briefs summarize research findings in easy-to-scan 1 to 1½ page documents. New Research Briefs will be added as further data is collected and analyzed. Additional details are provided as available through links at the end of the Briefs to the papers or other documents.

Research briefs are organized into the five subject areas below.

Understanding Student Experiences and Pathways... including topics such as developing identity as an engineer; conceptions of engineering; logistical difficulties; workload and life balance; persistence in engineering as a college major and as a career; and pathways to the workplace.

Examining Student Learning and Skill Development... including topics such as learning engineering and building confidence in skills and knowledge; conceptual difficulties; coursework demands and challenges; and student decision-making.

Exploring Issues of Diversity... including topics such as the effect of diverse student identities; gender differences; and addressing diversity in teaching.

Developing Community and Building Models for Engineering Education Research... including topics such as building a community of engineering education researchers; strengthening the engineering education research base; and models of CAEE research design and implementation.

Developing Effective Teaching Practices... including topics such as the impact of faculty decision-making on teaching; development of teaching portfolios by future faculty; stages in developing identity as an engineering educator; and applying CAEE research to undergraduate curriculum reform.
