National UW ADVANCE Summer Leadership Workshop for Department Chairs


University of Washington Campus

The University of Washington ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change will be hosting its second national summer leadership workshop for science and engineering department chairs. Modeled after the very successful ADVANCE quarterly leadership workshops, this two-day professional development workshop will provide department chairs tools and resources to help them more effectively lead their departments into the future.

Facilitating Transitions in Faculty Careers
Balancing Work and Family in Higher Education
Communicating Effectively: What They Didn't Teach You in Chair School
Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Faculty
Mentoring Faculty Throughout Their Careers
Getting to 'Win-Win' with Faculty and Administrators

Each participant will receive a single page synthesis of all the family-friendly policies available on his/her home campus with contact information for the person in charge of the policies.
