The 2008 WEBS Symposium application process is now closed. We are no longer accepting applications for the 2008 WEBS symposium. Answers to frequently asked questions about WEBS can be found on our announcements and resources page. Participant Selection Strategy Participants will be selected via an application process. Women from underrepresented groups will be actively sought and encouraged to apply. Particular consideration will be given to those applicants who do not currently have access to resources such as those provided at WEBS. WEBS aims to include women from a range of institutions, personal diversity (race, ethnicity, disability, age), geographic locations and disciplinary interests. Preference will be given to minority applicants, to those interested in pursuing academic leadership positions, and to those whose career trajectory makes them prime candidates for future academic leadership positions. Also, given WEBS's focus on addressing the critical transition period from graduate studies and post-doctoral positions to permanent research and teaching positions, priority will be given to women who have earned their doctoral degrees within the past two to eight years and who do not have tenure. This program is intended to address the science and engineering workforce needs in the U.S., hence symposium participants should be at U.S.-based institutions. Each application will be evaluated by two reviewers, unless a conflict of interest prevents this protocol. WEBS take great care to avoid any conflict of interest in the evaluation process. Reviewers who may have a conflict of interest must recuse themselves from that applicant's evaluation discussion and are not allowed to view any of the application materials of the applicant with whom they have a conflict of interest. Applicants who are selected for participation in WEBS will be invited to share their application research and teaching statement (or submit a new statement) in the WEBS symposium binder material to help facitiliate networking. Finally, please note that this symposium is not designed to address issues related to applying and interviewing for jobs, although some of the symposium panels and discussion might indirectly touch on these subjects. Those who are specifically interested in gaining these skills, should check out other ADVANCE-related workshops such as
