The University of Washington invites nominations and applications for the Frank and Julie Jungers Dean, College of Engineering. The College focuses on multidisciplinary research and education in an environment where collaboration is critical to the success of students, faculty and research projects.
The University of Washington is among the few universities in the world that receive more than $1.5 billion dollars in research support annually. Because of its national and international stature and location in the entrepreneurial and technology-rich Pacific Northwest, the UW provides an excellent environment for corporate and industry partnerships, fundraising, and collaboration across campus and with other academic partners around the world.
The College of Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines organized through ten academic departments: aeronautics & astronautics, bioengineering, chemical engineering, civil & environmental engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering, human centered design & engineering, materials science & engineering, industrial & systems engineering, and mechanical engineering. The College enrolls approximately 4100 undergraduate and 1800 graduate students. The 250 engineering faculty have the opportunity to participate in ground-breaking research in 30 interdisciplinary research centers. The Dean is responsible for the direction of teaching, research, development, and relations with the external professional community. S/he will report to the Provost and serve as the College’s representative to the University administration. The Dean will have the opportunity to build on the dynamic momentum of the College, including enrollment growth, new faculty hires, expanded infrastructure, leveraging state resources, and record fundraising.
Candidates should have an established record of leadership in engineering education and research, as well as organizational leadership and management. We seek an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to diversity and to the transformation of engineering education.
