Discussion
Karen Freisem and Wayne Jacobson from CIDR talked about how CIDR can help the departments with ABET. Karen will attend the ABET Coordinator meetings regularly to learn how CIDR can help. They can help on a class or department basis. A chart of "Sources for Evaluating Teaching Effectiveness" was provided. More information about CIDR is on the web at http://depts.washington.edu/cidrweb/index.html. Send e-mail to info@cidr to ask Karen or Wayne questions. ChemE has been working with CIDR for a number of years on an evaluation process for seniors.
Ideas were discussed regarding how to approach the ethical and social impact assessment questions of the ABET (a) - (k). Molly Johnson talked about three ways to address different aspects of these. How does the UW address these issues, and how is it addressed in other situations? This topic will be discussed again at the next meeting.
Scott Eberhardt provided samples and talked about how AA assesses if course objectives have been met for AA300, AA310, and AA320; and assessment of program objectives for Juniors.
