MEETING OF ABET COORDINATORS

Thursday, October 14, 1999

1. Introduction

2. Presentation by Dr. Gerald M. Gillmore, Director of Office of Educational Assessment (OEA)

OEA has collected survey data from alumni since 1989-1990. Surveys cover graduates after 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Reports are posted on OEA web site http://www.washington.edu/oea/. Data includes demographics, student outcomes (many mapped very well onto ABET outcomes), writing effectiveness, impact of UW education, survey return statistics, etc. Data request may be sent to OEA (give them at least two weeks to respond). It is acceptable for COE departments to work with OEA to add questions to current course evaluation forms. To add text on existing forms takes OEA 2 to 3 days. It is possible for COE departments to work with OEA to conduct surveys more specific to departmental programs.

3. The UW Alumni office does not collect data via survey

Several COE departments and CELT are working with the NW Roundtable to create an alumni survey for UW, WSU, and other state colleges.

4. Presentation by Bryan Rawson, COE Computing, about data available from UW databases (faculty, enrollments, student records, fiscal data, etc.)

Data request may be sent to Bryan (give them at least two weeks to respond). Click here for PowperPoint presentation presented at meeting.

5. Plan for this year

All present agree that a dry run is a good idea and will pursue the task of filling out the self-study volumes to get them reviewed in late Spring 2000. Two team chairs will be invited to help review materials and advise departments.

Meeting Adjourned.
